Woodhouse is home to the University of Leeds – A top Russell Group University, founded in 1904. As a result, much of the housing in this area is given over to student lets because of the proximity to the campus. Also due to the high volume of students in the area, many take-away’s and pubs can be found on Woodhouse Lane, as you approach the University from Headingley. The Dry Dock Pub – an old boat, moored on grass near the beginnings of the city centre, is the last stop on the infamous ‘Otley Run’ a pub crawl that begins in Far Headingley, some 2.5 miles away.
Woodhouse Moor is located on the Hyde Park/Woodhouse border and is a popular park which fills with swarms of people on sunny summer days. It also has tennis courts, a skate park, playgrounds, allotments, formal gardens, and large areas of grassland. It is at the southern end of the Meanwood Valley Trail, a footpath through woods and parks to Golden Acre Park. The popular annual Unity Day community event is held in the park each summer, with music, food stalls and kids activities.
