“This two bedroom stone cottage is full of character and along with its neighbours has a steeply pitched slate roof and overhanging eaves. Such architectural details which were indulgent for small homes of the era. We believe the first residents were tenant-gardeners to the large Victorian homes that had recently been built around Alma Road and Wood Lane. This was probably during the mid 1800’s. The new, imposing, villas had extensive grounds that required daily attendance by gardeners to keep them looking smart.
