The sellers told us:
“We bought the property in Newport Gardens as we already had purchased a tenanted property in the same cul-de-sac some years before and having started out married life in Headingley we knew the area well and found the Newports to be a quiet backwater with a good mix of families, professionals and students. There were no issues with parking, it was also convenient for the centre of Headingley and near main bus routes to the university and centre of Leeds. The nearby Burley train station was another plus. We have on the whole found this area to be kept clean and tidy. Our tenants have commented that it is pleasant and quiet without the constant noise of passing traffic and the rabbit runs that prevail elsewhere in the surrounding areas – third year students have found it to be beneficial when revising for their finals. We are sad to be selling up but feel that it is time now to hang up our decorating and cleaning equipment and DIY skills to enjoy our retirement. We will miss our interaction with our tenants.”
Kristy Marsden, the negotiator at Moores who will be handling this sale, says:
“The Newports are located in a really popular area, whether students, professional tenants or owner-occupiers. These cobbled streets retain such a lot of character, and with an abundance for trees and shrubs in the gardens, it’s no wonder the area known as the ‘Cardigan Triangle’ is so appealing. Whether you need access into Leeds, to the universities or to Burley, Kirkstall or Headingley, this is very centrally positioned, with good transport train and bus services.”
From the centre of Headingley by the Arndale Centre/Headingley Central, proceed south along the A660 Otley Road turning right at the first set of traffic lights into North Lane. Continue to the next set of major traffic lights and turn left into Cardigan Road then first right into St Michael’s Lane. Continue along St Michael’s Lane with the cricket and rugby ground on your right and turn left into Newport View. Continue to the end of Newport View and turn left onto Newport Road. Newport Gardens is then the first major left (after the service road). This property can then be found on the left-hand side.A brief history of this area
