“Glennan is one of those original Victorian family homes that were built in the early to mid 1800’s for the wealthy families of Leeds to escape the smog of industrial Leeds. We don’t know who originally had the house built, but it has a number of ornate details in its construction. It was possibly built over a number of years with extensions; this was common where families became wealthier as commerce in Leeds developed over the decades of the 1800’s. The conversion into flats possibly took place in the 1920’s or 1930’s, when the country was in recession and families found it financially difficult to maintain these rather indulgent homes. We’re keeping our eyes open for any other history facts about Glennan.”

From the centre of Headingley at the junction with the A660 Otley Road and North Lane, proceed along Otley Road towards the city centre. Continue past The Original Oak pub on the left and St Michael’s Church on the right onto Headingley Lane. Follow the S-bend along Headingley Lane and after 300m or so turn left into North Grange Road. Glennan can be found on the right. Flat No 5 is in the main house on the second floor, to the left-hand side.
