Cookridge is approximately 6 miles north of Leeds city centre and covers a large geographical area from one of the highest points in Leeds, Cookridge Water Tower. Residents are just a short drive from Bramhope, with residential suburbs of Horsforth to the west and Adel to the east. However, some now consider the districts of Tinshill, Ireland Wood and Holt Park to all fall under the heading of “Cookridge”.
Transport and Amenities…
There are great transport links to the city centre, with frequent bus services running from various parts of the area. The west side of Cookridge, bordering Horsforth, offers easy access to Horsforth train station, with trains running frequently into Leeds, Harrogate and York.
Those living in Cookridge have easy access to handy amenities such as a large Asda (officially within Holt Park, but only a stone’s throw from Cookridge Water Tower), the adjacent High Field doctors surgery, as well as Ireland Wood doctors surgery just across the road. Residents can also enjoy various corner shops throughout the area.
Things to do…
Just a 5 minute drive from the centre of Cookridge is well renowned Italian restaurant, Gusto. Loved by locals, this one time ‘police station’ is now unrecognisable as an elegant eatery and boasts a 200 year old olive tree in the centre. (Our Director, Michael Moore, was even involved helping with the original acquisition and conversion of the building into its old Le Celle Restaurant back in the 1980’s). Be sure to try the Nutella & mascarpone calzone!
For sports fans, Cookridge also offers an open age rugby union club, the Old Modernians RUFC, situated on the fringe of the village, adjacent the greenbelt fields that separate Cookridge from Adel and Bramhope. Always on the lookout for new members, the Old Mods is a sociable and well respected club.
If you’re looking for a side of relaxation with your fitness, Bannatyne Health Club Cookridge Hall is the place to be! Here, you can enjoy a superb range of facilities including a gymnasium, studio classes, pool, spa area, 18 hole golf course, bar and restaurant. Alternatively, Holt Park Active offers additional sports facilities nearby, including a swimming pool, indoor courts, gym and fitness classes.
There are 6 primary schools in the Cookridge area (with all the state schools rated as ‘Good’ in their last Ofsted inspections – 2016). The local secondary school is Ralph Thoresby, although children living on the ‘Horsforth side’ of Cookridge may fall into the catchment area for Horsforth School – 0ne of the most popular schools in north Leeds!
