It’s no wonder West Park is popular with families, professionals and academics; the area has a delightful local shopping parade with some super eateries and cafes, a beauticians, hair salon, retail shops and some professional services, as well as The Village Hotel and Leisure Club (gym club, spa, etc) and the Stables pub and Convive restaurant at Weetwood Hall. If this doesn’t provide you with some local leisure facilities you can stretch your legs with a ½ mile walk to Far Headingley where you can have an Italian or Greek meal out, a few beers in either Woodies, The Three Horseshoes or the New Inn, or take in a film at the Cottage Road cinema – without the need for the car or a taxi ride home (unless absolutely needed!).
Families chase properties in this area not just because many are generously proportioned, set upon spacious garden plots and set well apart from each other thanks to the Edwardian and post-war development, but primarily because of the proximity to schools; St Chad’s and Weetwood Primary are both highly desirable local authority funded schools, and Richmond House is one of the most sought-after private schools in north Leeds. These schools along with Lawnswood Academy are within easy walking distance, eliminating the need for cars for the ‘school run’. Mum’s of primary school age children love meeting for a coffee on ‘the Parade’ after the morning ‘drop-off’ and for secondary school pupils, independent travel to and from school is not only character-building but allows parents a greater freedom of time.
If you work in town the public transport down the A660 Otley Road is unrivaled in Leeds; buses run every few minutes throughout the day and night. Although with the Lawnswood Business Park ½ mile to the north and with development along the Kirkstall Valley bringing new businesses within walking distance of West Park the area has much to look forward to.
